Sounds of Georgia
Malkhaz Erkvanidze and ensemble SAKHIOBA
invite the world music lovers for a singing and performing trip to Georgia.
Dates: Friday, 29th of July - Sunday, 14th of August
On the 29th of July we meet in Tbilisi and with two busses we go on the tour.
4 days: Svaneti – a breath-taking region in the mountains (UNESCO site)
4 days: a village in the province Kobuleti, near the Black Sea (with visit to Batumi)
1 week Bukistsikhe - a village in the green province of Guria.
Discover an incomparable Georgian cuisine, enjoy the famous supra's and picnics. Swim in the Black Sea and in the clear local rivers and lakes.
After the last evening feast on the 14th of August we will return to Tbilisi.
NB.
Most of the flights arrive to Tbilisi and depart from Tbilisi at night.
Workshops:
We shall rehears 4-5 hours almost each day .
We’ll learn 18 - 20 traditional songs in a traditional manner – by ear.
At the end of the last week we are going to give a few concerts
Singing experience is quite necessary.

Malkhaz Erkvanidze
is a leading ethnomusicolog, a world authority in the field of Georgian polyphonic choral music. He teaches at the State Conservatory of Tbilisi and the Academy of Chant Studies.
Malkhaz grew up in a family of traditional singers. During his studies in musicology at the Tbilisi State Conservatory he founded the famous Anchiskhati choir.
Since 2008 Malkhaz is the leader of the Sakhioba ensemble.
Sakhioba
Out of great love for Georgian folk and religious music a group of talented musicians from the new generation of Georgian folk musicians founded the ensemble Sakhioba.
Sakhioba is committed to the revival of traditional Georgian music. They preserve the intonation, timbre and arrangements of the great masters of their reach musical heritage.
